CHARACTER
Name: X-23 | Laura Kinney
Canon: Marvel comics
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Wing Color: Black
Canon Point: End of X-23 #18
Canon Point Explanation: I feel this leaves Laura at a good point. She's learnt a lot about herself, made friends and fought some demons and is well on the way to recovering from the damage X-Force did to her attempts at a normal life.
History: Wikipedia link.
Personality: Laura is not your typical teenage girl.
That is the one thing one must keep in mind with Laura. She is not a normal teenage girl, even though she is trying to learn how to be one. But her lack of a normal childhood has affected her deeply, to the point that it is exceedingly difficult for her to act ‘normal’. It is more a case of her passing as a calm, quiet woman, until something triggers her more violent instinctives.
Growing up in a closed lab environment has shaped much of what Laura is. She speaks with perfect grammar, with very little slang and is quite blunt with her words, keeping sentences short and straight to the point. This in turn means she often hurts other people, such as when she told Nori straight up what happen to David in Limbo, where everyone else had lied and said it was nothing important to spare Nori’s feelings. She doesn’t always mean what she says to be hurtful, such as the time she told Jubliee that she wanted her to kill her if the trigger scent was released, and having to clarify she asked that because she trusted Jubilee to do it, not that she thought Jubilee would be happy to do it.
Laura also has very little understanding of things like humour, sarcasm or rhetorical questions, showing this early on, by the times she yelled straight back Megan’s Principal’s entire speech at said Principal when the woman asked if they were even listening. She takes everything very directly, as she simply still isn’t used to such quirks of speech due to her sterile upbringing.
Another big part of Laura is her loyalty. Even though she attempted to kill Wolverine upon their first interaction she came to care enough to give him her loyalty quite easily, and will viciously attack anyone who harms him. Other people, such as Sooraya and Cessily from her New X-men team have earned that loyalty, as had Julian Keller for a long time, to the point that she attacked Lady Deathstrike and nearly killed her for touching Julian
She also has a tendency to follow orders that are given to her unquestioning at times, as she still isn’t used to the idea that she can say no. She joins X-Force under Cyclop’s request, in turn ruining her chances of having a normal life, or as normal as she could be. This is changing, as she becomes more used to having a say in her life, to the point that she decides against joining either Wolverine’s school or the X-men, instead going out on her own and keep discovering herself.
However, learning to be normal, to feel normal emotions like love has had it’s price on Laura. She’s not used to it, and it clearly causes her anxiety to be in situations like having a crush on a boy, or the idea of coffee with friends and she has continued to cut herself, a habit that started originally in the Facility. She simply does not know how to react to emotions and it seems the only way she can cope with it is to cut, a habit that isn’t dangerous thanks to her healing factor.
Finally, Laura can be incredibly selfless, and in turn self-sacrificing. She often does not look before she leaps when it’s an issue concerning someone who has her loyalty and displays suicidal behaviour, such as being willing to throw herself into a reactor to kill a disease that has been implanted into her over taking the risk of letting her teammate attempt to heal her. When Wolverine yells at her for not obeying orders and putting fellow teammate Rayne Sinclair in danger Laura’s response to Rayne losing control and going into a murderous rampage is to let Rayne attack her over and over again without hitting back. Slowly though, her travels with Gambit have taught her the value of her own life, and the beauty of the world and she is starting to overcome it.
Strengths
Physical: As a clone of Wolverine, Laura has his accelerated healing and his claws, two each in her hands and one each in her feet, which have also have also been coated with adamantium, making them virtually indestructible and capable of cutting through most substances. Her healing ability means cuts, bullet wounds or stab wounds are healed within minutes, and she is advanced enough to regrow or reattach limbs, regrowing her arm after Kimura cut it off, and re-attaching her hand after she severed it herself. It also makes her immune to most diseases, toxins and drugs, though high doses of drugs will affect her. The lack of an adamantium skeleton means she tends to heal faster than Wolverine. Her mutation has also pushed her senses such as sight, hearing and scent as well as her speed, agility, strength, balance, endurance, reflexes or reactions to superhuman levels. On top of that Laura was trained from birth to become a weapon, which means she is superb at hand to hand combat, specifically an unnamed martial art, as well as skilled in long range weapons and explosives.
Mental: Laura has been well educated, though her education often covered topics not usually touched upon, like how much you should bribe police officials in France. Never the less she is intelligent, knowing at least fluent French and Japanese on top of her native American-English. She also has learnt to shield her mind to some degree, enough to make it difficult for a telepath to get in, unless they are very persistent.
Emotional: Laura's biggest strength, emotion wise is her empath. Even years of being forced to watch brutal scenes of murder and death, of being forced to kill puppies and then humans wasn't enough to properly kill it. She lets the son of a target go more then once, she goes in the place of her friend Sooraya to what she's sure is a trap. This empathy leads into loyalty and to some degree, Laura is loyal to those who show her kindness. She is extremely loyal to Wolverine, to the point of protectiveness, and she develops this loyalty to Gambit as well as her New X-men teammates when she was still with them. Most importantly she is capable of love. She loved her mother. She once loved Julian Keller. And she's learning to love herself.
Weaknesses
Physical: Laura has a trigger scent, created to override her mind and moral compass and send her in a berserker rage. One sniff sends her in a full attack against the person who bears it and snapping her out of is difficult as not many can hold her still long enough to remind her who she really is. A lack of an adamantium skeleton also is a flaw in her, as without it she can still be killed, if her head is ripped off.
Mental: Her ideas on what is right and wrong are a little skewed, though this is starting to get better. But basically she sees no issue in harming or even killing someone who has done horrible things. They deserve it, don't they? She also tends to be a bit too obedient, though that has started to changed as she's started to do what she wants to do rather than be the obedient weapon to be used against an enemy.
Emotional: Laura is highly emotionally disconnected even now. She was subject to repeated attempts to destroy her empathy, make her a mindless killing machine and while it may not have worked, it has left her unable to deal with her emotions properly. Love baffles and scares her, her crush on Hellion originally scares her because she just doesn't understand it. It also makes her rather blind to others emotions, resulting her being quite blunt, for example when Nori attempts to find out what happened to David in Limbo everyone but Laura attempts to tell her nothing happened, where as Laura gives the exact details without hesitation. The biggest weakness in Laura's inability to handle her emotions is that it has lead to her becoming a cutter to cope with times she is unsure and scared of them as her body will heal the cuts easily.
Anything else?: Nope!

Third Person:
Luceti was not the first cage Laura had found herself kept in. And when she considered it all, considered who and what she was she knew logically it would not be the last one that someone attempted to place her into.
That didn’t make it any easier of course. It didn’t quell the quiet deep seeded anger at the fact she was here, trapped like her childhood, to be kept for tests, to be prodded and poked by scientists whenever the mood struck them. Her foothold on her own life, on her control of such a small but massively important thing was still shaky but she had learnt. She was not an animal. She was not a monster.
She was not an animal.
She was Laura Kinney.
The wind was a cold low breeze, just enough to draw her hair up and send it twirling, knotting together before dropping back down but it wasn’t important. Nor was the fact it was dark enough for a normal human, not a mutant, not her to find it impossible to see through the gloom of the night. Good girls would be tucked into bed dreaming the sweet dreams she assumed normal girls dreamed but Laura had always been different.
The night was her home, the dark the only cloak she needed. Here she could just stay and watch, study the few who still chose to be out and about and more importantly think. Think of each plan they had and find the flaws that they had to fix. Think of how to destroy those flaws till the plan was airtight. To escape this place they needed everyone working together, and more importantly they needed a plan that ensured success. Too many failures broke spirits. Broken spirits would only give them more failures.
Under her shirt her wings stirred, tickling skin and making her frown even as she stepped off the tree branch she had perched in to fall gracefully to the ground. Enough thinking for tonight. Now to find more information for consideration.
